Pricing

How much does Tome cost?

There's no subscription. Tome is free to open, and you only pay for the AI you use, from prepaid credit — most writers spend just a few dollars a month. Top up any time; credit never expires.

How do I get started with the AI?

Plain writing, editing, and exports are always free. To use the AI (suggestions, covers), add a little prepaid credit in Settings → Billing — you only pay for what you use, and credit never expires.

Is there anything to cancel?

No — there's no subscription. You pay per use from prepaid credit, and any unused credit just stays on your balance. Your manuscripts always export, whether or not you have credit.

Billing & credits

How do I pay for the AI?

Tome runs every model for you — Claude for the writing assistance, the image models for covers — on its own keys, and bills your prepaid credit balance at a small markup. There are no API keys to manage. Top up in Settings → Billing; you only pay for what you actually use.

Which features use credit?

Every AI action draws from your balance: writing assistance (suggest, rewrite, chat), manuscript import, and AI-generated covers. Plain writing, editing, and exports are free — they don't touch the AI.

Does credit expire?

No. Prepaid credit stays on your balance until you use it. Top up whenever you run low.

Manuscripts

Where is my writing stored?

In Tome's Supabase with row-level security, encrypted in transit and at rest. Exports are generated on demand and downloaded by you any time — your work is always portable.

Can I import a draft?

Yes. From the dashboard, New work → Import. Tome accepts PDF, DOCX, and Markdown, running them through LlamaParse for the messy ones (footnotes, headers, page numbers handled cleanly).

Can I export?

Yes. Every work exports to PDF, EPUB, DOCX, and Markdown. The PDF goes through Paged.js for proper print typography (running headers, page numbers, drop caps) at 5.5×8.5 inches — KDP-ready.

Publishing

Where can I publish from Tome?

To the Tome store. When your book is ready, set a price (minimum $5 — no free books) and list it — readers discover, buy, and read it right inside Tome. You keep the rights, and you can export the files any time.

Does Tome take a cut of my sales?

Yes — Tome takes a 10% platform fee (minimum $0.50 per transaction) on store sales and rentals, and pays out the rest to you. Payouts run through Stripe, so you connect a payout account once (a quick identity + bank step). Reader payments are real money, separate from your AI credit balance.

Can I republish updates?

Yes. Re-publishing updates your existing store listing in place — same link, with the new price, description, or cover.

Operations

Is Tome open source?

Not today. The full app stays proprietary; prepaid credits fund the studio. We may open-source pieces over time (the editor's voice-injection module).

Where can I report bugs?

Can I switch to another writing tool later?

Yes. Every work exports to portable formats (Markdown, DOCX, EPUB) you can download any time. Your writing is never locked in.
